CHALLENGE 16 - Meditation

I’m going to be honest here as I feel like a bit of a letdown this month. I initially had two challenges booked in for February. However, over the last two weeks, I’ve definitely felt a dip in mood and I can tell I’m starting to unravel slightly. This is definitely down to putting far too much pressure on myself with training and the upcoming endurance challenges.

As a result, I’ve had to re-evaluate challenge numbers and frequency as it really is affecting my mental and now my day-to-day physical health. This is such a shame as the whole point of starting the project was to have something to focus on to IMPROVE my mental health!

I’ve definitely had a word with myself, and have had support from my friends as they can see the pressure I’m putting myself under (however unintentional) Unfortunately (depending on which way you look at it) I have high standards of myself and am a perfectionist. I want to do the best I can to raise as much money and smash as many challenges as possible but I can’t do this if I’m neglecting my mental health.

So, the idea for February is to just take on one challenge (which I feel is progress already as previously I would have just ignored the warning signs and just pushed past them) and this challenge will be to take up meditation for the next two weeks. 

I’ve never been one to meditate. I only have some ‘me time’ when I’m exercising, which is usually high energy exercises so I don’t get a lot of proper down time. So allowing myself to ‘just’ sit and focus on my breathing, sleeping, self esteem and practicing mindfulness every day, this will be a massive challenge for me. I am, however really looking forward to seeing the results after the two weeks.

I’m really hoping that I’ll create a habit where I will continue to take half an hour out of my day to re-focus, and manage my anxiety and stress. This will then in turn, hopefully help me throughout my work days but it will also hopefully let me manage my stress (however perceived) with the fab challenges that I have lined up for the rest of this year.

Again, I’ll document this challenge as best as I can. Although don’t worry, I won’t be spamming you every day! Fingers crossed that after the next two weeks, I’ll be a LOT more zen!
